Music has a long history of being used as a tool for treatments: from primitive tribe wizards using music to exorcise evil spirits to nowadays as a science-based and evidence-based mode of treatment. Credentialed music therapists are health-care professionals who use music in the therapeutic environment systematically and skilfully in the accomplishment of therapeutic aims: the restoration, maintenance, and improvement of mental and physical health. This course will introduce the theories and application of music therapy in different settings and populations, including special education, psychotherapy, medical care, elderly services, etc.
